Jesus calls us to go beyond what is expected; to walk the second mile (Matthew 5:41). This is the mark of an unruffled follower; someone who maintains his/her integrity, love, and commitment even under pressure, betrayal, or injustice. Uriah is a powerful example.

Despite being betrayed by King David; a man he trusted and served; Uriah remained loyal, disciplined, and focused on his duty. He chose honour over comfort, and calling over convenience.

A. Who Is an Unruffled Follower?

An unruffled follower is someone who:

1. Maintains positive posture; calm, composed, and gracious under pressure

2. Keeps emotional balance; not easily provoked or discouraged

3. Stays loyal to God; even when people fail (Colossians 3:17; Matthew 25:40)

4. Remains steadfast in calling; faithful to purpose despite opposition

5. Honors leadership; even when leaders are flawed or unjust

B. Uriah: A Case Study in Loyalty and Integrity: 2 Samuel 11:2–17

• Uriah was loyal to David, even when David was disloyal to him.

• He refused to indulge in personal comfort while others were at war.

• He unknowingly became a victim of a leader’s cover-up, yet never compromised his values.

Personal Diagnosis: What would you do if someone you trusted used his/her power to harm you? Would you still honour your calling?

• Changing Situations: Job loss, health issues, shifting roles

• Changing People: Betrayal, abandonment, inconsistency

• Changing Times: Economic shifts, cultural trends, moral decline

To be an unruffled follower is to reflect Christ’s endurance, Uriah’s loyalty, and the Spirit’s peace. In a world of shifting values and unstable leadership, God calls us to remain faithful, focused, and full of grace.
