Jesus promised to return and take His people to be with Him (John 14:1–3). Knowing that many would grow weary or distracted while waiting, He gave the parable of the ten virgins to illustrate the importance of readiness. The wise virgins kept their lamps filled, while the foolish ones were unprepared. This parable is a call to spiritual vigilance.

After His resurrection, Jesus ascended bodily into heaven (Acts 1:9–11), and Scripture assures us He will return in the same way. His coming will be visible, glorious, and accompanied by angelic hosts and the trumpet of God (Revelation 1:7; Matthew 24:27; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17). For the unprepared, His return will be terrifying (Revelation 6:14–17), but for the watchful, it will be a moment of joy and fulfilment.

Summary

Jesus is coming again; visibly, gloriously, and suddenly. The parable of the ten virgins reminds us to stay prepared, keep our spiritual lamps burning, and live with expectation. Let us not be overtaken like those asleep, but be found faithful, watchful, and ready when the trumpet sounds.
